An Army of Torches exists to ignite purpose in the next generation. We equip young people—especially those navigating hardship—with leadership skills, mentorship, and real-world service opportunities so they can light the way for others.

The torch represents the spark of potential that lives in every young person. Our name comes from the belief that one flame can kindle many—when you carry your light and pass it forward, you create an unstoppable force for good.
An Army of Torches was founded by Kaitlin Murdock, a JROTC Battalion Commander responsible for over 120 cadets and the author of Weight of Duty. She founded the organization to equip a generation hungry for purpose with leadership, principles, and community. Learn more on our About page.

“Carry · Light · Pass”
Our Carry · Light · Pass framework mirrors the leadership development pipeline used in JROTC programs. "Carry" aligns with bearing responsibility, "Light" with leading by example, and "Pass" with mentoring the next generation. We partner with JROTC units to reinforce these values through real community service.
High school is a decisive season. Students are forming their identities, choosing paths, and deciding what kind of adults they want to become. By meeting them at this crossroads, we can help channel their energy into leadership, service, and lasting purpose.
We organize food drives, neighborhood clean-ups, care package assemblies for veterans, school supply donations, and partnership events with local nonprofits. Every project is designed so young people plan, lead, and execute—not just participate.
Yes. All volunteers under 18 must have a signed parental or guardian consent form on file before participating in any event. We take the safety and well-being of every young person seriously. Forms are available during our volunteer sign-up process.
“Mutual investment in the community.”
We collaborate with schools, faith organizations, veteran groups, and local businesses. Partners provide venues, resources, or mentorship capacity—and in return, our youth bring energy, labor, and heart. It’s a mutual investment in the community.
